SIRUM is a 501(c)3 nonprofit based at Stanford University that enables the donation of short-dated, slow-moving pharmaceuticals by licensed manufacturers and wholesalers. Donations go to safety-net clinics that serve the 1-in-4 working-age adults not able to fill prescriptions due to cost.

We are the only organization that enables medication donations under the protection of states’ Good Samaritan laws. These laws provide superior legal and regulatory protection, greatly reducing the risks and burden once associated with medicine donation.

To be protected under these laws, all medicine donated through SIRUM must be non-controlled and unopened. Our partner clinics accept medications with as few as four months before expiration.

Prescription drug manufacturers and wholesalers shall not be subject to criminal or civil liability for injury caused when donating prescription drugs in compliance with this division.
